Participation, Civil Society and Stakeholders

Public participation is the continuous process of engaging the public (civil society, concerned citizens, business community) in government’s activities. When the government makes a decision that affects the public’s rights and interests, the public should be informed and enabled to actively participate and influence the decision-making process. In such participation processes CSOs act as a multiplier for the engagement of citizens. Such public participation can be facilitated by governments through a process of public consultation, which can involve public meetings, workshops, surveys and other mechanisms to better assess the needs and priorities of the public with the objective of improving services.
